HI OKTANE @ STINKIES PEEP HOUSE LEEDS 18 JAN 2008

I might say that i've not been compelled to do a review for a while or I've just been a lazy cunt, either way, I've been compelled by post gig euphoria, and this is Wednesday and the gig was last Friday to review the awesome HI OKTANE!!

Main room (Hard house & NRG)

Glazby b2b Ben Stevens (Vicious Circle/ Fireball)
Ilogik (Elasticman/ Sundissential)
Marc Johnson (Tripoli/ flashpoint) b2b Karl Davis (Pure NRG)
Adam M (Oktane/ Hi Oktane) b2b Garbo (STORM)
Damage & Narkotique (Sundissential North)
JT & Mixin (P.A.S.) (Invasion/ Toolbox)
Scott Fo Shaw (STORM)

Room 2 Hosted by Funk Deluxe (Electro)

Dean H (Hi Oktane)
EM Exteme (Hi Oktane)
Lady C
Sarah C b2b Metz
Johnny Favourite

After any December, much less the full on one that finished off 2007 at Storm, the average punter, even the hardhouse variety, takes awhile and another paycheck to get back out the door and into the swing, or mong, of things for a new year.  But by the 2nd week in January there was such a proper buzz about Hi Oktane with the prospect of a Glazby / Stevens B2b session on the cards that anyone within monging distance and then some of Leeds would have been well just plain SILLY to knowingly miss this gig!  And miss the start i did as well as anyone else who had to traveled past qct. 29 of the M1 or at least got delayed for nearly 2hrs!

So i missed my m8s Damage and Narkotique's set, but by all accounts they rocked the shop without me minding the till, as always, never seen them place a needle wrong, mong maybe but not wrong ;) So I got in the door for Ilogic to already have taken the reigns off Taz and Dammo and the place was ROCKIN!  i' knew it was ganna be a good turn out but the place was as busy or busier as any night i've been to there, and for once the Funktion1 sound system was getting the kinda use it was designed for, and not some plinky plunky electro.. about bloody time. . After Ilogic Marc Johnson and my favorite paddy Karl Davis got on it and poured petrol on the flames with more of the hardstuff and the place just seemed to get funkingmadder!!

About this time, i took a wonder upstairs to look for a m8 expecting to find 2 nearly empty rooms populated with early casulaties. but much to my surprise, they too were busy!  Well done Leeds, you know a good night when you see one :)  Next Oktane records presidente' AdamM and Storm headboy Garbo didn't give even the heaviest breathers time to catch their testicle as the relentless pace was mirrored by the crowd reaction which was reaching near sexual levels, i kid you not . . And as if that wasn't enough to make yur panties gain excess moisture we still had Mr. Glazby and Stevens to come. . sheeeeesh!!!  You wont be surprised then when i say that the roofers proved their worth when Paul and Ben got their turn on the CDJ's of steel cause two flawless hard legends taking turns with the hammer together equals . . errr . . BANGING times TWO!!

But that didn't give next up JT and Mixin any excuse to let off on the throttle, no sir ree bob, it was more heads down into the most aerodynamic postition, or was that head down between the knees and kiss yur monging ass goodbye more like!!  And there was still an official after party with Adam/Ben/Karl/Marc on the decks and an un-official after's round at Dammo's with everyone cept the cat on the decks until 5pm. . Now that's what i call clubbing!!

So if you didn't go you don't need me to tell you now that yeah you missed out.. ha ha. . told you so. . But you can redeeme your sorry ass at the next one on March 21st. . yes, its more than enuf time after the Weekender to recover ;)

So never mind the Martians, its Hi Oktane that's landed and looking to take over your way of life, so make sure you book your self on the next inner-planetary-monging flight to the luvly Leeds or you'll be soooooooooooooooory!

see ya in MARCH!

TIDY WEEKENDER 12 : : OCT 5 - 7th 2007

'Once you go to a Weekender you'll kick yourself for not going to all the ones that you missed before!'..

And for all the Weekender virgins at TW12 there couldn't have been a statement more true, cause if you weren't hooked after this one then you were at the wrong party . . All the right elements got together after the last two, although still ace didn't live up to their full potential, had fallen short for one reason or another.  The lineups were better than 11 and it showed in the sales.  and this was after the horror stories of OTT policing at the TW11.

FRIDAY : :
Like TW11 the weather forecast held up all week and by friday it was sunshine everywhere not the least Sunny Prestatyn! And after the shite summer we've had this year any sun is good sun!   WE got on site for 730pm, later than hoped but earlier than others, and the place was well and truely buzzin! That's got to be the best thing about a SELL OUT as its more NUTTERS the BETTER!  I did my best to get my arse into arena 2 for 10pm as one of my fav girls, Lucy Fur was playing a weekender for the first time so it would be more than rude to miss not only because i'd been eagerly awaiting this lineup for ages >>

Storm vs Vicous Circle
Defective Audio LIVE - Paul Glazby - Ian M vs. Ben Stevens - Justin Bourne vs. Nik Denton - Garbo
Rodi Style - Daley - Lucy Fur

An boy was it worth the wait!  I barely left Arean2 all night, and when i did and got to the main Arena to see the mandatory Tidy Boys set, i was met by my m8s coming the other way (and me just a bit ketFused) saying that it wasnt the Tidy Boys on but Lab4, ehh?? ha ha ha those Tidy Boyz what a bunch of WISE GUYS!! If you haven't heard Andy and Amo donned leather trouser and glue on dreads and came on as Lab4 v2.0 and more than one monging Lloyd got caught out. . HIGH 5 . . More shennanigans from Arena 1 when later Lisa Lashes and Ann Savage has some still undetermined cat fight and Lisa stormed off leaving Ann on her own after 30mins! haha . and that was suppose to be the staart of a world tour. . meow scratch! ding ding!

The rest of the night FLEW by in the Vicious/Storm arena with absolutely everyone playing blinders. . hats off to you all i luv'd every minute. So its out into the raising sun, bonzai! quick shower and off for some chalet monging . as always there's more chalets to visit than hours in the day so go go go!  And the chalet monging is better entertainment than any gaggle of world class dj's can hope to provide. first stop was my good m8s in the aptly numbered chalet 42, the meaning of Life or what! With decks on non-stop playing one classic bangin tune after another and the sun coming into a cloudless Welsh sky, life just does't get any better, well not with your clothes on at least. . The morning / after noon then passed in a drug alcohol and bollox talking haze - with one of the many highlights being the Robot Man in the VIP courtyard av'ing it to Tidy2 banging out over the stereo - genius.

SATURDAY : : :
The daytime as described before was nothing short of magic so after another shower and 1 1/2 hrs of sleep it was off to the arenas for more of the same.  Unlike the night b4, the lineups inthe main rooms didn't appeal to me like on Friday night so except for Lisa Pinup in Arena2 it was the attraction of the smaller 'intimate' areana 3 for me. . And all i can say is im glad we decided to 'politely', this aint no fucking footy match, push our way into a packed room 3 for a claassic bounce set by JP and Jukesy, and fucking classic it was! one of the best sets of the weekend! Absolutely banging classic bounce that rocked and rocked the room which was more a suana from start to finish! And when we left i had to staight to the toilets to get some TP to soakup the sweat in my camera case so i didn't loose another camera to the WeekenderSweat Monster!   And once again the night just flew by and b4 we knew it we were leaving to carry on with more of the chalet monging where we left off. .

SUNDAY : : :
. . but this time, unlike other Weekenders there was an OFFICIAL AFTER PARTY in room 2 starting at 7am and going to 12noon. . we made the decision to cool our heels then check out the Afters for 10am when BK was on followed by Super Fast Oz. . because of the weather and the quality chalet monging i didn't get my hopes up that there would be many in Arena 2, i mean it is a good sized room. . but when i got there for 10am followed by mine other m8s who had showed real backbone to crawl out of their Kholes and attend in style sporting wigs and cowboy hats just to make the point, the room was 3/4 full and was going off! BK was excellent, one of best sets of the weekend, and then when you thought it couldn't get better Super Fast Oz came on and played a set of simply fantastic hardhouse of the type that gets played by OD404 yet there were tunes i've not heard b4 and they were ace!! . . sO i left with ANOTHER shirt sweated the fuck up, and it was back to the chalet for another shower then more sex drugs and silly rock and roll!! . .Saturday afternoon had the foot ball match and Contagious Dancers T&A volleyball match and all afternoon events are always worth the price of admission alone. . The Tidy Boys can win as game show hosts when the music 'thing' gets put on the shelf, and for Sunday it was Tidy Deal or No Deal. . Any of these type sendups are easy vehicles for Andy and Amo to use they're endless adlib wise cracking and sexual ennundo, long may it continue, and Tidy Deal or no Deal was no exception. Though I think the format of that particular show just takes to long to get to the climax, pun, but what the fuck good crack as always boyz ;)

More good intentions of 'getting my head down' for a couple of hours never materialized and before i knew it, thank you Mr. G and Mr. B ;) it was time for the final Sunday night push.. An Sunday are always balls to the walls with a 3am finish with all guns blazing. At this point i'll say that I originally was ganna leave with Paul Glazby on saturday to do pics with him in Birmingham on saturday night, but due to some techy difficulties, i ended up staying a TW all weekend, YES, while Paul went to play Birmingham. . So i really didn't expect to see him make the trek back to TW for the sunday night, as this was the second weekender where the sacrilidge of Paul NOT playing the last hour . . boooooooo. . so when he turned up on Sunday night i thought, well done lad for making it back your fans well be glad but you must be knackered!  So imagine my and EVERYONE elses delight when Andy get on the mic at the end and gives the usual it was a great weekend, and got a HUGE CHEER AND A BIGGER YES when asking if everyone wanted another weekender, then says that Paul Glazby is ganna play one more tune!!! que 'Are you All Ready' followed by the mandatory 'KICK IT!' . . Thank you Paul, that was perfect, now let the CAMPAIGN FOR SUNDAYS TO BE FINISHED BY PAUL GLAZBY begin!

GAME SET AND MATCH!

So the Weekend was nothing short of a complete succes . . and SO. . ONCE AGAIN . .

FUCK CHRISTMAS IN DECEMBER, MY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS COME IN MARCH!! . . ROLL ON TW(lucky)14!

B2VICIOUS - The ReOpening of the QClub Birmingham - 15 September 2007

Some club nights are infamous in clubbing history and some clubs are as well..and one of those is the Qclub. .i've always heard that . 'the best club SunnyD Birmingham was ever at was the Qclub' .. So when i heard that it was re-opening and that Vicious Circle and B2T were ganna co-host the event then there was no way in mongville i was ganna miss out! The main room alone was worth it, and there was another 4 rooms as well! >>

Main Arena
Andy Farley Vs Paul Glazby
(Exclusive 2hr Last Set)
Audio Surgery Live - Organ Donors Vs Kutski
(Midlands Exclusive)
K90 Live (B2T Debut)
Ben Stevens Vs Paul Maddox
Strange Dave
Live Wire
Riggsy Vs Lee C
Kye Shand Vs John Vyse
(full lineup - DSI page - cause it was fooking huge, click here)

So after some last minute 'who's goings' and not goings, the 3 of us tooled off from Sheffield to BrummyLand. .now i've managed to figure out the route to Sanctuary/OC's enuf times and the Qclub is not suppose to be that far from there so i figured we'd just wing it and ask round a bit. to get to directions, wrong! My poor mans SAT NAV, Google maps didn't even show the Bullring. .so after following a cabbie, never would have found it otherwise, we arrive to see 300 queing outside..YES at least it'd be busy, so we join the que, £25/ticket, more on the door, ouch, glad i got guestlist, thank you VC. . once inside the jobsworth door/security live up to their reputation from years gone by, and it wasn't even that busy, for being pushy and just plain piss poor. . but we're here for the EVENT the PEOPLE and the MUSIC/MADDNESS! so the rest could be forgotten and we could get on down to gettin on down!!  And i must admitt the Midlands has got the best concentration of proper clubbing clubbers out of anywhere in the country. . whether its Storm, SunnyD, B2T or whatever I always know there's ganna be an up4it crowd and with the anticipation for this event that's certainly what we got, with that extra added buzzz in the air. . was it just me, i dont think so!

So there was plenty of missioning around like you do when yur not familiar with a new club, and the only dissapointment on the night for me was that i never found the E:volve - battle of the Brands room - with the other 'local' dj's that i wanted to see, DOH! managed to find the other rooms without any probs, but just not that one :( . . oh well, there was so much going on and so many people to see, and for me, shoot, that before i knew it the music was jumping up a notch, or getting into gear the way i like it, proper hardhouse, when Paul Maddox b2b with Ben Stevens were on!  Well at least Maddox was on cause Ben didn't make it for some reason, Ibiza reason? So now the place is rockin even more than before n the main room, and what a room it is! I can see why its got the reputation it has, that room is brilliant, and the extra day glow decor from Jock Evolve, was amazing along with a quality PA with enuf monging seats, and high rise stage for the podium people to geee on the masses. . ACE! And for me the night was complete when 2 of my all time heros, Andy Farley and Paul Glazby played back to back for the last 2 BRILLIANT hrs which went way toooo quickly.  So for me besides the missing room, the night went great. .so it came as unbelievable when the now well publisized news came out of all the trouble AND financail loss Strange Dave and B2T had with the night.  I really do hope that the clubbing community can all pitch n an help Dave and co. sort things out as it will be real loss for EVERYONE if they are no longer putting on events. . HATS OFF TO B2T, YOU GUYS ARE FUCKINGLEGENDS : RESPECT.

Storm - Paul Glazby 'A decade of Dance' tour 1 September 2007

It won't take up much space in this review with the lineup of who was playing in which rooms, bla bla bla, only one line of text required >

PAUL GLAZBY 6HRS ON DECKS, PERIOD. . no cereal no fillers!

Its like saying the only drink at the bar is vintage Champagne, nobodys ganna be moaning that that's all there is.. and everyone that had the nounce to show up, it was a night for the hardhouse enthuisist of impecable tastes, had to arrive for the party on time, 9pm - 3am, cause it did feel like a private party with Mr. Glazby as your host. .

And this Storm gig was the first of a commencing tour celebrating 10yrs that Paul has been one of the major contributors to the ongoing life of hardhouse that we know and LUV. .SO keep your eyes open for more 'extended sets' of either 3-4-6hrs at a club near you for the rest of this year and into 2008. . treat-a-rooney!

And keeping with the 'a journey thru 10yrs' theme, Paul started with the type of bouncy'er vocal hardhouse from the legendary days of Trade, early Sunndissential and Insomniacz that brings some right memories back for those that were fortunate to have been there, or fortunate to REMEMBER being there ;) then steadily took the pace up and up getting that bit harder without jumping too far too fast, all the while dropping tune here tune there, PERFECT . .

and like i said this was the first of his decade of dance tour, and so as a added treat to the party goers that arrived for the festivities, Kate and the Red Management team have put together stickers, cards and the opertunity to get yur pic taken with Paul not just after the gig or before, but during the gig! yes during, Paul would come off the decks at the top of the hour from 11pm on and the que'ing fans could, if they were quick, get their picture taken with Paul before the tune ran out! Genius, and cant' think of many big dj's that would even think about pulling off a 6hr set, never mind posing for pics with your fans at the same time, talk about multi tasking, it not just the girls that can ehh ;)

So we partied on, Paul played what i can call, like he always does, a blinder, and before you could say 'my legs are broken, and im fooked' it was pushing onto 3am, which is usually peak hour at Storm, and well for lack of a better phrase the place was GOING RIGHT THE FUCK OFF! . . Que 'Kick it!!' and all i could think is why is he not playin last set sUNDAY in the main room at the next weekender??????????????????!!

But don't get me started on that one, my blood pressures bad enuf at my age ;) suffice to say that if you were there you know exactly why it was so good, reminds me of the same scenario when Andy Farley played 6hrs @ Farley Storm, and that if you weren't there then . . errr WHY??? was there a death in the family for fucks sake. . oh well if you were then you can see your pics here, and if you were one of the lucky ones that got yur pic with Paul then if you havn't already then go to the official micro site >

http://www.vicious-circle.net/decadeofdance/index.html . . Enjoy!

Storm Summer Classics 18 August 2007

There are certain 'life constants' that continues to be well, constant. . one of those seems to be shit English summers (maybe September and October will be red hot, come on Global warming sort your self the fuck out!) and another is that Storm is ALWAYS brillant!  And as soon as i saw the line up announced >>

*Captain Tinrib LIVE
*K90 (K90 Classics – DJ Set)
*Amber D (Tidy Classics)
*Ian M (Trade Classics)
*Phil Reynolds vs. Technikal
*JP &Jukesy (Bounce Classics)
*Garbo
*Daley vs. Neal Thomas

I knew that this 'Classic' was ganna be another classic!  But in the back of your mind, well mine mind at least, this time of year you can't be positive what attendance will be like with people off on holdidays and or planning / saving for some mongathon in Ibiza or whatever, so my slight apprehensiions were dispelled as soon as we got thru the doors and into a heaving club! And when Storm is rockin Storm is rockin . . Phil Reynolds and Technical were on playin the type of bangin hardhouse which ISN'T bouncy but true to the purest style of hardhouse that i've always luv'd both of them for. . Now i don't know if there was an unpublicized 'gorgeous ladies get in for free' promotion going on or something, but hats off to the ladies/girls in attendance, you rule! . . ;) . . back to the gig, K90 played it down and alot more dirty than i've seen him b4, which is fine by me cause sometimes i've found him too 'trancy' so well done K90 :) . . And b4 i could say, 5 4 3 2 MONG, Amber D scooted into the booth and proceded to bang out a set which turned the entire main room into some kinda hardhouse viagra trials! . .Out of a night of spot on performances from each and every DJ, Amber got my vote for performance of the night, whether that was from getting that perfect slot where everyone is getting to their 'peak' on the dance floor or whatever it was the place went the fuck off! HIGH FIVE AMBER you knew what you were doin!

But hold on its only 1am and there's 4 more hours of this to go! Signal The Captain Tintib to pump it up a notch with in his words, an 'old school rave type' performance of the relentless driving hardhouse Tinrib style that resulted in the 'shit I've got to stop dancin im getting TOO sweaty' syndrom. . then Ian M kept the hard classics pumpin out for another hour till JP and Jukesy played some 'proper' bouncy classics from a by'gone and sillier era that left everyone in near riot state when 5am clicked past and NOBODY wanted to go home! Good stamina Storm people ;) great set JP and Jukesy.

So once again Storm has shown the rest of club land how and why it has got the most loyal following of any club night in the UK or anywhere else on this planet.  Now from one classic to another, get ready for a 6hr journey through UK hardhouse history with the Dark Destroyer himself, Paul Glazby, on the Sept. 1st!  YES!!!!!!!!!!!

KiddStock @ a secret location in North Yorkshire 11 August 2007

After the now in-famous 'KiddsFields' at TW11 when Alex and everyone else vacated the Queen Vic after Lisa Lashes ruinded a otherwise good set with some wank MC's, and set up shop outside Alex's chalet then proceded to go for it open air stylee for the lucky 600-700 than realised it was on b4 the security got the plug pulled because of the Hotel over the fence, it was only proper to take the idea a step further and setup in the sun again but this time with no party poopers pullin the plug!  So i was more than up for it when my m8, Dammo, one half of Damage and Narkotique, asked if I could drive, no problemo! check the line up >>

We arrived without any probs finding the 'secret location' seeing how it was all well signposted with 'KS' signs all along the main road and after you turn off.  And like it's famous hippy festival namesake this 'Stock' was on farm lands complete with old stone barn and fields of sheep (and mongcats of course) . .Even though earlier in the week it was forast for rain it never looked like raining even though the sun which shone on south yorkshire only hours earlier was covered in clouds now, but what the fuck that's the summer were having ain't it.. but even if it was cool outside, inside the tents it was heavin an rockin!  And that set the pattern for the day, mong around outside on the grass, then go in the tent or the barn, yes the barn for who ever was on, and like with most festivals you were spoilt for choice as both the main Tent and the barn were going off no matter who was on. . But at the end of the day is it all about a load of top dj's playin in tents and barns that makes for a good time, outdoors, indoors whatever? no. . its the mongcats that show up that makes it!
Its the smilin - mongin - silly antics that make a good gig a really good day out, and I certainly had a damn fine day out because of all the folk that i see around the Narth whether its Good Greef or Storm or Tidy or Vicious or whatever, its the fun we have with friends old and new. . So well done to GG for puttin on something different, making the effort, and well done to everyone that got an 'invite' and showed up and making yur effort, I was glad to be apart of it. . And in the words of Barry GoodGreef, ROLL ON NEXT YEAR - BIGGER AND BETTER!

Storm presents Flashpoints 4th Birthday party 21 July 2007

If the Birthday cake was anything like the music, you would have needed a chisle and hammer to get a slice off that motherfucker!  So if you like your hardhouse with a bit of cheesy bounce you probably hide in your bedroom with non-Flashpoint records and took the night off with this lineup! >>

Grady G
Andy Farley
Defective Audio LIVE
Justin Bourne
Marc Johnson
Ben Stevens vs. Frank Farrell
Garbo vs. Daley
Jupe

And somebody must have took the night off and went down the pub instead, cause the numbers were down from a normal Storm, not that the qaulity folk didn't make up for the quantity, but surely such an ace line up deserved more attendance . . shame shame shame. . : . Cause what a feast of quality from start to finish!  We came in after Daley v Garbo with Ben and Frank well bangin it, and before you could say 'im fooked', Justin Bourne passed the banging bible over to Dom Sweeten, aka Defective Audio. . Now as stated earlier, everyone played flawless sets that got the place rockin in their own right, but for me Dom took the music and his set to a different level that was bordering on the spiritual. . Fucking worked for me!

Then Andy Farley made me dance till my shirt got all sweaty . . again! Marc Johnson was the closest thing to a birthday boy and he took his turn on the decks with the best of them before handing the cake slicer to Grady G to deliver a big dollop of whallloop and blow out the candles for the night like the gentle giant that he is. . and boom its 5am . again! : . So well done Storm - Flashpoint and all the party people came to the party!

VRC2 @ STYLUS LEEDS UNI. 07/07/07

There's always some events on the HH calendar which get looked forwards to with anticipation like an early Christmas, such as Tidy Weekenders - Storms Bday - HardHouse Academy - and Vicious Circle gigs. And ever since this one was announced the 7th of July 2007 was ticked on the calendar with a note. . ' * write Sunday off!..' >>

VICIOUS ARENA
Captain Tinrib LIVE / Paul Glazby / Andy Farley b2b Nik Denton / Steve Thomas
Ben Stevens / Lady Bianca / Paul Maddox

THE RED ROOM

Steve Thomas (Terrace Party Warm-Up Set) / Nik Denton / Stash / Clewz
Lucy Locket / Kyle Marshall

OFFICIAL AFTER PARTY @ CLUB WIRE

JUSTIN BOURNE / SAM TOWNEND b2b MORGAN / MATT PICKUP b2b ANDY RISE
MATT HADDER b2b BRODY / TRUZ b2b MARK HOWARD

We made the effort to get up and out of Sheffield and get to Leeds for 8pm, which is a major achievement in our book for any event, so that we could get in for the 'terrace party' for some warm up action b4 the main event.  And it did take some warming up alright, what with this crazy funkin 'summer' were havin, it wasn't cookin outside but with the talent on the decks inside got the party well and truely started with the a dirty housey beat for the wise guys and girls that got to the party on time!

So after some dutch courage, Stella, as if in anticipation of the hardhardhardness to come, we made a move for the MAIN ARENA down stairs soon as the doors opened like some monging shoppers on boxing day.. And from then on, i kid you not, it was every 'i luv hardhouse' tee shirt wearers idea of heaven, cuase with the help of what i promise you is one of the loudest and most banging PA's anywhere, and that was with earplugs in!, EVERY MAN and WOMAN on the decks put on one amazing set after another. . which for me was a blessing and a curse, as i just wanted to dance non-stop cause it was soooooooo good, but somebodies got to point the god damn camera and shoot!  oh well, there's worse jobs ;)

And even though the numbers thru the door were slightly down from the previous gig, students not in town, Ibiza holidays and all that, everyone i know agreed the party athmosphere was as good as it gets and thats because VC gigs have a loyal - descerning following that know their hardhouse and know how to have a goood time like one big fuckoff house party!  So hats off big stylee to Kate - Les - Paul and everyone at VC and Red Management, it was one hell of a party everyone is already itchin for the next one, December is it?
*Monging apologies* > > i heard as i didn't make it, that the after party @ Wire was quality messyness with the 'bestfuckinhardhouse' theme well and truely continued! WEll done :)
